Pwllheli 34 - 27 Menai Bridge

The matches between Pwllheli and Menai  Bridge have been high scoring close matches for years. Saturday was no exception, with both teams going all out. Bridge edged the first half as their forwards imposed themselves. Toby Lewis, always lively at full back, pressurised the Pwllheli wing, charged down a clearing kick and gathered to run a try in under the sticks. Bridge didn't deal well with the restart and Pwllheli gathered spreading the ball wide for a try. Bridge gained a penalty in reply, slotted over by Pat Roberts. The Bridge forward pressure led to a pick and go try for Gareth Parry who had an outstanding afternoon at eight. Unfortunately for Bridge another slip up at the restart led to Pwllheli replying with another try. Bridge responded with centre Louis Malloy stepping and swerving in close contact to score a try. At half time the match was evenly poised at 14 - 22. The second half started with Bridge enjoying plenty of ball but failing to use it effectively as they overplayed. Pwllheli took advantage and the home side used their possession effectively running the ball with pace and skill. Scoring four tries without response the match swinged to the home side who played direct effective rugby at pace and with skill. Bridge eventually reverted to using their forward strength and closed the match with a classic number eight try for Parry, picking from the base of the scrum and crashing over with defenders desperately hanging on. Next Saturday sees a return match with Pwllheli visiting Llyn Y Felin.
